Skin diseases and allergies in acupuncture

Bartosz Gorecki MD, L.Ac.

Skin diseases can really make one’s life difficult. They can be itchy, sometimes painful and they do not look nice. Most skin problems have their source in the digestive, immune, hormonal or nervous system. And the same is true for allergies.

Fortunately, both skin diseases and allergies can be successfully treated with acupuncture.

Let me tell you how…

Toxins.

We accumulate toxins by eating and drinking the wrong food. Bad diet gives conditions for the growth of fungi and harmful bacteria. And this gives rise to even more toxins.

Our body has the ability to clean itself. But if our digestion is not working properly the emergency exit for the toxins is, guess what – the skin!

Particularly medications like steroids, antibiotics or other chemical substances can be harmful. They can accumulate deep in your body and give rise to many problems with the skin and allergies.

Acupuncture can take your digestion back on track, stimulate your body’s natural power to clean itself from residual toxins and, at the same time, you can get rid of nasty skin diseases.

Immunity.

Your immune system is essential for body protection. It can get weak or out of balance due to long-time exhaustion, stress or antibiotic therapy. When the immunity is not working properly this can lead to problems with allergies.

Acupuncture not only can calm the symptoms swiftly but also regulates your immunity so the next outburst will be milder, eventually leading to the disappearance of the allergy altogether.

Hormones.

When our hormones are out of balance they can lead to skin diseases and other related issues. You don’t have to be necessarily diagnosed with hormonal problems like thyroid, ovaries or pituitary. Long-time stress or exhaustion can change your hormonal system with visible effects on the skin such as acne or eczema.

The weakness of adrenals (adrenal exhaustion syndrome) and excessive energy in the upper body often lead to skin diseases visible on the face and cleavage, hot flushes, and sweat.

Acupuncture restores harmony between the upper and lower part of the body, Heaven and Earth, as says classical Chinese medicine.

Emotions.

The nervous system controls the interiors of your body. Emotions can change its functioning; either by helping or harming your organism. This can be by giving rise to allergic attack or skin changes.
And interconnected nervous system and hormones are responsible for it.

By relaxing and restoring harmony in your nerves and senses, acupuncture diminishes the frequency and severity of allergy outbursts or skin diseases.

What you may expect visiting acupuncture clinic with skin problems?

Complete diagnosis

You will be offered a complete diagnosis according to Chinese medicine.

It consists of 3 parts:

1. Questions. You’ll be asked questions concerning your symptoms, emotions, and dietary habits, which are vital in skin-related problems. The important part is your medical diagnosis, especially if you have been undergoing medical tests or are on medications.

2. Medical examination. Your pulse will be checked. It’s a traditional way of diagnosing. It can show which parts of your body are out of balance and where the blockages are.

3. Palpation. Your body will be palpated to find any painful or tense areas. I put special attention to the parts related to respiratory and digestive systems. Also, I take hormonal and nervous systems into great consideration.

At the end of the diagnosis, I’ll explain what eventual findings mean for your health and how to treat them.

Acupuncture treatment

And only then comes acupuncture treatment.

Almost painlessly I’ll insert very thin needles in acupuncture points to treat affected areas in your body. You will experience almost immediately how these areas become more relaxed and less painful.

In the end, I’ll remove the needles and advise you on the treatment plan for your next couple of visits. The number of sessions may vary depending on your condition, but after each session, you should feel a noticeable improvement.
